Hurricane Matthew: School Closing

We will be closing today Wednesday, October 5 at 3pm due to the mandatory evacuation of the barrier island starting at 3pm due to Hurricane Matthew. We will also be closed on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7. We plan to reopen on Monday, October 10 and will send out a notification if we will be closed beyond that. Indian Harbour Montessori sixth grader, Avery B. has qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee! The Florida State Geographic Bee will be held at Jacksonville University on Friday, April 1, 2016. Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. Both Girls & Boys Basketball Teams Win 1st Place

Both of our competitive girls and boys basketball teams won first place in their tournaments this past weekend! Through dedication, great coaching, good sportsmanship, and the desire to do their best as a team, this was accomplished. Indian Harbour Montessori swept the competitive sports in their division this year including volleyball, flag football and now both competitive basketball teams. A special acknowledgement and thanks to all of our coaches and Mrs. Naugle for their commitment to our students and great athletics. Congratulations students! Go Makos!

Indian Harbour Montessori parents and staff donated over 150 pairs of pajamas to the Brevard Family Partnership, they will also receive that many books from Scholastic. Our art teacher, Heather Everett created a snowman photo booth out of a box for our students & parents to enjoy after our Winter Program. It was donated after the children's Christmas party that Brevard Family Partnership hosted. We were also able to provide over 300 pounds of non-perishable food items to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped out so many this holiday season!

Please join us in the Gym at 8:45 am on Friday, December 18th. We believe in teaching our children to help and support others in need. We are working with the Scholastic Pajama Drive donating new pajamas (unwrapped) and scholastic will donate a new book for every pair, as well as with the Second Harvest Food Bank donating non-perishable foods. *All items should be to your child’s classroom by Dec. 16th. International Peace Day Celebration

Peace Day, which is often referred to formally as United Nations Day, is observed every year in October. Another occasion that is celebrated in October is International Children’s Day, which is celebrated during the last week of October. This holiday was originally created by UNICEF to celebrate our cultural diversity and ethnic heritage. This year, all pre-primary classes (Rooms 1, 2, and 3) celebrated both United Nations Day and International Children’s Day on October 23rd.
