Welcome to Indian Harbour Montessori!
At Indian Harbour Montessori (IHM), education is more than academics — it is a journey of curiosity, confidence, and community. I warmly invite you to explore what makes our school such a special place for children and families.
My own journey in education spans Kindergarten through university-level teaching. I began in Montessori classrooms in Detroit, MI and Orlando, FL, where I received my Montessori training and developed a deep respect for the philosophy’s creative, child-centered approach. After transitioning from Montessori, I taught mathematics across K–12 and at the university level, and later served in various school leadership roles focused on curriculum development and teacher training. My published research highlights student achievement, 21st-century learning practices, and school improvement, and I authored a middle school mathematics textbook for grades 6–8.
While my experiences are diverse, my heart remains rooted in Montessori principles — nurturing independence, honoring each child’s voice, and fostering a lifelong love of learning.
At IHM, we are committed to:
- Celebrating diversity and building an inclusive community
- Prioritizing student voice and leadership
- Partnering closely with families
- Empowering teachers with the autonomy to create meaningful classroom experiences
I believe strong schools are built through collaboration. My leadership approach is circular — when families, students, and educators work together, we create the best possible outcomes for children. Community involvement and authentic participation are the pillars that sustain excellence and fulfillment well beyond the classroom.
If you are seeking a school where your child will be known, valued, and inspired, I invite you to join the Indian Harbour Montessori family. We would be honored to partner with you in shaping your child’s educational journey.
Thank you for considering IHM. I look forward to welcoming you and your family to our community.
Warmly,
Dr. Savita MacMurdo (Administrator)
